  2. Apple Magic Trackpad

So the other day I picked up one of these:

And right away started using it like this instead of putting it off to the right like I would a mouse. Makes sense right? It works great like this, in fact I started scheming a case to put and keep this set-up as so.

So far here is what I’ve found…

    • Using it like this is great, no doubt, because it is very similar in set-up to my laptop.
    • For editing in FCP it is wonderful because click and hunt less, meaning most of the built-in gestures (pinch to zoom, 2 finger drag or 3 finger drag for navigation) speed things up, it is slicker more streamlined.
    • Love the size.
    • Love the build quality.
    • Using it in Color.app is horrible though. For me the touch sensitivity is to great that increments get moved way too much. I kept reaching for my mouse to make minor adjustments, and so I did that. I guess depending on what you might be working in you might need the combination of AMTrackpad and a traditional scroll mouse.

So I’m gonna put this through its paces a little more this week and see how it goes.

  6. Just saw this.
If you are a Mac Pro user this will interest you. Right now I use up all my internal MacPro bays for single 3.5” SATA drives ranging from 500GB to 1.5TB. A couple 1TB drives are mated to make a Mirrored RAID, my boot drive is 500GB and another (which just died) is normally something I just pull in and out. Aside from that I have my travel drives which are 3 external FW800/400/USB2 drives. 2 of them Seagates inside OWC enclosures. Had these 2 for the longest with no problems. And the newest one is a straight-up 500GB G-Drive (Hitachi) combo. I also use one of these for all my archives.
What I like about this new enclosure though is the ability to swap it internally or use it externally and it still be a really really portable RAID 0 configured drive. Add to that the fact it is a RAID that takes up only 1 internal bay…. win.
The enclosure only cost $147

  7. RedRockMicroEVF > Zacuto ZFinder

Zacuto made something that I actually don’t like. Their stuff is nice but not that nice. Way too expensive.

I think RRMicro has a winner here.

  8. Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC HSM
Nice lens. Really fast. Maybe too fast?! Hahaha. The AF isn’t bad either. Not as chunky as I thought it’d be. I will look into taking advantage of the $40 toward a purchase of this lens I’m getting because I rented from lensrentals.com.
Fun experiment. Will be posting some photos soon.

  9. LaCie 324i LCD Monitor

    • 10-bit P-IPS LCD panel for superior uniformity
    • Wide color gamuts, 102% NTSC, 98% AdobeRGB
    • Professional hardware monitor calibration
    • DisplayPort, DVI-D, HDMI, Component
    • Available with hood and blue eye colorimeter

    $1,250

Would love to get a nice new 10bit monitor like this for editing photos and video. I do not like the direction most monitor manufacturers are going with glossy-screens, including Apple. I don’t care that monitors are 178º viewing angle or 3D, if you can’t see just the picture without noticing your reflection or a window open, all these “great” advances in technology is bullshit.

(sidenote: I don’t understand why Apple insists on not giving buyers of their PRO products on all platforms in their pro line, the choice of anti-glare screens. Why is it only for 17inch and 15inch MacBook Pros? And even then, why are the bezels completely different from the glossy versions? A silver vs. black frame, come on! You know which one is best.)

(sidenote 2: I don’t understand why everyone boast about how amazing Apple design is. That’s bullshit. Their designing is skewed, like their leader.)
